Expérimental Description
Future quantum networks require connecting heterogeneous quantum platforms via existing telecom fibers. This involves interfacing long-lived matter qubits with low-loss photons and developing network-compatible entangled photon sources. The QITe team addresses this using AlGaAs quantum photonic chips, a III–V semiconductor platform combining strong second-order nonlinearity for photon-pair generation and a direct bandgap for room-temperature on-chip laser pumping.
Building on achievements like photon distribution over a deployed Paris Cité–Sorbonne fiber link and a deep-learning tool for AlGaAs sources interfacing \(^{88}\text{Sr}^+\) ions with the telecom C-band, this project pursues three directions:
1. Device design & fabrication: Developing AlGaAs sources for ion–photon interfaces and entangled-photon generation (C and O bands), collaborating with C2N.
2. Hybrid ion–photon links: Investigating entanglement swapping between a trapped ion and a telecom photon via Bell-state measurement (collaboration with MPQ).
3. Deployed networks: Implementing multi-user protocols combining industry-grade multiplexing with White Rabbit synchronization (collaboration with LIP6 and REFIMEVE).
The internship focuses on the quantum characterization of photonic devices and experimental quantum communication over deployed fibers. Intended for future PhD students, it is funded by the French PEPR Quantum Communication Testbed and the European QSNP.
